Bass fishing in Bulawayo.

There is never anything better than being able to finish work on a Friday and know you can go home, pack your fishing kit, cooler box and boat and be at a local dam within minutes to do some all important bass fishing in Bulawayo.

We have some beautiful Dams in and around our wonderful city and what makes them so special is the simple fact that they are easy to get to and fish out of. Just to prove this point here are some of the dams and their distances from Bulawayo...

• Inyankuni 

Bass fishing out of 'kuni' is a great experience, there have been some good fish caught here and is one of the more popular destinations for the avid fisherman. It lies about 80km's from Bulawayo.

• Mayfair

Another stunning dam to fish from. If you chose to fish off the bank there are some great spots by the wall where it is a bit more open for the cast. Be careful though, high winds can hinder bank fishing! It is about 120km's from Bulawayo.

• Upper Ncema

A much smaller dam to fish, more known for its' barbel and bream fishing but it has been stocked with bass and they are growing! only a few bass have been caught here but it will get better with time. Upper Ncema is only 70km's or so from Bulawayo.

• Lower Ncema

Again, a relatively new Bass dam. Although Lower Ncema is a recreational dam with lots of skiing and water sports happening weekly. There are some fish to be caught! People go out for the weekend and have the best of both worlds. Fun, sun and fishing! It is about 80km's from Bulawayo.

• Mtshabezi

A lesser known dam to most anglers (probably because they try for the lunkers at Mayfair and 'Kuni') but trust me when i say this. There have been some beautiful bass pulled out of this water! A peaceful dam and at times it feels like you are the only one there. Mtshabezi is about 80km's from Bulawayo.

• Umtshaleli

What a stunning dam... Situated in the heart of Matopos the views and tranquillity can't get much better! Being in a national conservation area, boats are not allowed here (Engines at least.) But this just makes it even better. There is no better feeling of walking a shoreline and hooking into a bass. It is about 85km's from Bulawayo.

• Mpopoma

Another stunning dam in Matopos. Again no motors allowed and again beautiful. Many a person takes their family here, has a picnic amongst the trees and dabbles in some fishing. There have been some great fish caught here but it is a hard dam to fish... When you hook one, hold on tight!

• Pampoenpoort

Another relatively unknown dam in Zimbabwe. But as with the above, great fishing and great scenary! Boats are welcome here and people go through for the weekend to get away from the urban life. it is peaceful and calm, the winds can pick up so heavier lures are sometimes the way forward.
